BECOME AN ARTS AMBASSADOR TODAY!
Volunteer at The Arts Center
Volunteers are the backbone of AACA. Arts supporters can participate in a variety of means with different degrees of time commitment.
We call our volunteers Arts Ambassadors. These ambassadors can:
Help with administrative tasks
Support "front of house" during events (pass out programs, sell concessions)
Host receptions and decorate for events
Build and paint set pieces
Lift heavy things
Join committees and offer strategic insight and help execute programs and events like our concert series and the Gala
Learn about and consider board service
THANK YOU TO OUR JANUARY VOLUNTEERS!

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Cynthia McCowan
Cynthia McCowan first entered The Arts Center to see David Gerald Blues Band in January 2018, maybe 2019, and quickly become a fixture in our programming.
Cynthia has many ACT credits including To Kill a Mockingbird and Having Our Say, and has sung with her family in several House Blend Concert Series events.
Cynthia is a two-term board member and has been involved in many strategic planning efforts, from fundraising to planning performance seasons. While She’s an active volunteer every month, we're celebrating her efforts as our January volunteer of the month.
Even though this designation is technically for January, it is notable you are reading this in February, Black History Month. Cynthia has been a faithful pioneer of programs that focus on the experience of people of color and works tirelessly to cultivate honest dialogue in our community.
She has spearheaded or collaborated on projects encouraging local people of color to share their stories in film, photography, and on stage.
Cynthia's first AACA production offering a platform for previously unheard stories was the four-part "Conversation of Black Folk," which was released via YouTube.
In 2023, Cynthia produced her first original theatrical piece "Hot Comb, Honey?" an exploration of the history of Black hair and its influence on Black identity.
This past Sunday was the closing show for Cynthia's most recent project, another original theatrical piece. "Now We Juke-ing: A Juke Joint Story," was a series of theatrical vignettes and storytelling offering accounts of true events of Cynthia's childhood in Northern Mississippi.
Cynthia lead a cast of twelve actors, most of whom had no previous theatre experience, through a months long process to bring a powerful piece of theatre to life.
We are grateful for Cynthia's commitment to encouraging critical conversation and her dedication to AACAs mission to help everyone experience the arts.
