The goal of the club is to bring together the artistic youth of our community and create an enriching space for sharing, learning, and creating art! The Studio is a non-judgmental and anti-anxiety environment aimed at nurturing the younger generation into confident artists. Meetings will include a variety of opportunities for participants including painting, drawing, sculpture and many other forms of art. The Studio is free to join but don’t worry if you can’t make every Studio event, come when you can! Please register your attendance for each session.

Patricia Shook's journey with clay began as a young child, making sculptures of her favorite animals, whales and elephants, and as a young teenager sculpting a life size bust of a teen crush. While working in clay came as second nature, the necessities of family and work life took over. As an older adult, Patricia returned to school to complete a degree in studio art with an emphasis in Ceramics. She loves returning to clay as a medium of creativity and appreciates the multiple applications of this medium, as well its therapeutic value.Patricia's teaching style is through demonstration, as well as individual coaching. Patricia enjoys helping students progress from any stuck places in their journey with clay. Each person learns differently and Patricia takes that into account when demonstrating and explaining a process. She has collected a wealth of methods to correct and support throwing unique shapes on the wheel, as well as good tips for trimming and fine tuning a pottery form. This information is included in all her pottery classes. Patricia makes sure her students feel empowered and inspired in their class experience.A mother of two grown sons, Patricia enjoyed giving them a chance to explore their own creativity when they were growing up. She now enjoys having time to express her own creative voice in clay in her spare time. Patricia enjoys hiking and looks forward to discovering great hiking trails as well as the cultural aspects of Eastern Tennessee.Patricia is a native of Virginia. She obtained her BA in studio art: ceramics from Mary Baldwin College (now University) as a second career in 2015. After graduation she moved to Richmond, VA where she continued her ceramic education at The Visual Art Center learning a variety of methods for visual enhancement of her pottery, as well as taking other specialized ceramic classes. She fell in love with teaching when she was invited to teach at a Richmond recreation center, teaching both adults and children. Patricia moved to Tennessee in the spring of 2022 and taught at the Appalachian Arts Craft Center during 2023, until she moved to McMinn County last December.
