ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

“I could draw before I could speak. After decades of creating and exhibiting I have crafted many artist statements. I've written about my materials, my inspirations, and what I hope to convey through my art, but what it boils down to is four words. I create. You enjoy.”

A Retrospective features a sampling of popular series that artist Doug McCoy created over the last two decades. These acrylic and ink paintings are sometimes whimsical, sometimes worrisome. While a few of the pieces are older the majority were recently created specifically for this exhibit. Expect to see a mix of McCoy’s rich imagination and unique perspective. From Doug’s colorful pop referential figuring to his inextricable detail work with pen, watercolor and acrylic, A Retrospective walks you through the process of this evolving artist.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Doug McCoy is a native of Chattanooga, TN who has been involved in various fields of art, theater and music in his hometown for several decades. A long-time resident of nearby Ooltewah, TN, Doug now focuses exclusively on painting and drawing. He received his BA at UTC after studies in the areas of art, theater and literature. Doug brings his diverse knowledge of different arts to every painting; rhythm in line, harmony in color, and drama in shape and subject.Doug has regularly exhibited his works in numerous juried shows and exhibitions. Among his awards is a piece on permanent display in Chattanooga’s sister city in Germany.
