INTRO TO THEATRE with Melonie Carideo
Monday & Wednesday 10:00 - 11:30 AM
Ages 5 - 11
Students will take a tour of the theater, learn basic theatre vocab, play some fun theater, games, get tips on how to audition, and learn how props and costumes can change your performance and more!
IMPROVISATION with Emerson McKenzie
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 1:00 - 2:00 PM
Ages 14 - 17
Get hands-on learning experience focused on developing spontaneity, creativity, and collaboration skills through interactive exercises and games.
MUSICAL THEATRE GAMES with Tyler Peaden
Tuesday, 10:00 - 11:30 AM
Ages 5 - 11
Learn and play games meant to encourage movement, vocals, and character used through the years by Musical Theatre Professionals.
CREATE YOUR OWN CHOREOGRAPHY with Kelly Borwick
Tuesday & Thursday, 1:00 - 2:30 PM
Ages 12 - 17
Dancers will find inspiration from music, movement, and surroundings. Students will focus on developing their dance by improvising, refining movements and incorporating transitions.
MUSICAL THEATRE HISTORY with Tyler Peaden

Ages 5 - 11
Learn about the beginnings of musical theatre and about where musical theatre is heading. Watch videos from historic musicals and learn why each type of musical theatre is valid and important.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
Melonie Carideo has spent over 15 years volunteering for ACT performing, directing and teaching. Performances include Always Patsy Cline, Steel Magnolias, and 9 to 5. She directed Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, and The Sound of Music.
Emerson McKenzie has been in several productions at The Art Center including The Addams Family (Wednesday), Into the Woods (Cindy), Sweeney Todd (Johanna) and others. She has a certification in Professional Acting as well as lots of other training. Every summer, she helps teach campers during our Youth Theatre Camp.
Tyler Peaden is so excited to teach musical theatre again. Tyler studied music and theatre at Tennessee Wesleyan University, and has been learning and performing his entire life. His directing credits include ACT’s Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, Shrek Jr., Frozen Jr., and 9 to 5. He has been seen on stage in Legally Blonde, Jesus Christ Superstar, and most recently Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He has also choreographed shows, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, and Ain’t Misbehavin’.
Kelly Borwick is regular performer at The Arts Center in various capacities including directing our Youth Theatre Camp every summer. Kelly has performed through out the country but calls Athens her home with her husband and three daughters.
