POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director(ED) serves as the chief executive officer of
the Athens Area Council for the Arts + The Arts Center (AACA), providing leadership and strategic
direction to advance the organization’s mission of fostering arts and culture in the community.

The ED is responsible for all aspects of organizational management, including financial oversight,
personnel, programming, development, facilities, and community relations.

The position requires a dynamic leader with a passion for the arts and a demonstrated ability to
build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Management

  • Provide visionary leadership to support and advance the AACA’s mission and goals

  • Collaborate with and report to the Board of Directors to establish and implement strategic priorities

  • Oversee all operations concerning AACA buildings and grounds 

  • Coordinate with staff to provide oversight of volunteers

  • Maintain regular communication with the Board; in conjunction with the board chair, schedule meetings,
    set agendas, prepare and distribute meeting materials

  • Foster a healthy organization culture that encourages collaboration, innovation, and accountability

Financial Management

  • Prepare and manage annual organizational budget

  • Research, apply for, and administer appropriate funding opportunities, including grants from government agencies, arts organizations, and private foundations

  • Track grant expenditures and ensure compliance with all grant requirements

  • Oversee all fundraising initiatives, including annual Arts Partnership drive, sponsorships, and special events such as the annual Arts Gala

  • Strengthen and foster donor relationships and identify new funding opportunities

  • Oversee and administer scholarship funds

  • Monitor financial performance and provide regular reports to the Board of Directors

Personnel Management

  • Hire, train, and support all staff

  • Develop and manage a high-performing team; lead and delegate to staff responsibility for successful management of day-to-day operations

  • Provide all aspects of personnel management

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Oversee marketing and communications strategies to promote all Arts Center performances, programs, classes, and events

  • Provide guidance to staff to ensure thorough planning, development, and production of all organizational communications

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for The Arts Center in the community and with the media

  • Oversee and foster collaborative community projects

Programmatic Responsibilities

  • Ensure programs align with AACA’s mission and meet community needs

  • Research, select, and schedule all professional and local concerts

  • Engage and contract all professional artists and independent contractors for technical services to facilitate concert series

  • Provide oversight, support, and evaluation for all instructional programs, classes, and exhibits

  • Utilizing input from stakeholders, provide leadership for community theatre productions, including selection of shows and determination of available budget

  • Utilize data and feedback to continuously improve program effectiveness

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, non-profit management, business, or a related field (master’s degree preferred)

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit or arts organization

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and development

  • Strong financial management skills, including budget development and oversight

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including media relations experience and comfort with public speaking

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff and volunteers

  • Experience working with a Board of Directors

Preferred

  • Background or genuine passion in the performing or visual arts

  • Experience with capital campaigns or facility projects

  • Proficiency with donor management software, ticketing platforms, and standard office applications

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a full-time position with an annual salary of $60,000–$65,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The position offers paid time off. AACA offers a supportive work environment committed to the arts, community, and professional growth.
