Dear friends of the arts,

We believe in the power of the arts! That power comes in many forms and today feels like responsibility.

Athens Area Council for the Arts leadership feels strongly that our role at this time is to act with measured thought and wisdom and join leaders across our nation in taking precaution to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

As of Monday, March 23, 2020, The Arts Center will be closed to the public and suspend or cancel programming through May 15, 2020 pending updates from the CDC.

Now through May 15, The Arts Center is closed. Staff will periodically check our voicemail (423-745-8781). Donations are welcome and may be made by postal mail to PO Box 95, Athens, TN 37371 or by appointment (423-506-6823). As always athensartscouncil.org is open 24/7.

AACA will announce new dates for rescheduled events as soon as possible. In the event that patrons who have purchased tickets and/or class registration are unable to attend the respective event(s) on the new date, AACA will offer class credit (for classes) and tickets to a future event of equal value. We do encourage patrons to consider any payment to AACA a donation to this valuable nonprofit.

Thank you for your patience as we work to schedule events in a timely manner. A calendar such as ours has many moving parts and it may take several days to rebuild our wonderful puzzle of arts programs.

The safety, health and wellbeing are, along with providing access to the arts, of utmost concern to our staff and board of directors. Thank you for your understanding and your care for your neighbors.

Lastly, please remember the vulnerable among us, including artists, whose livelihood is gravely impacted by decisions such as these. We do not take this lightly.

Gratefully, yours for the arts,

Lauren Brown Shepherd
