The purpose of the Athens Area Children’s Choir is to teach and encourage children in grades 4 – 9 to achieve high artistic standards through choral singing and performance. Life skills such as discipline, responsibility, and teamwork are of equal importance. High expectations will be placed on this select group. Members will attend regular rehearsals Monday 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm August through May at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 123 North Jackson Street, Athens, TN 37303.

Invited singers pay a $50 registration fee and annual tuition. Singers must commit to participate for an entire school year and make tuition payments each semester. Payment plans may be approved on a case-by-case basis. Financial assistance is available from the Marian Biddle Trew Scholarship Fund. Current singers may apply for the Blair Boyd Music Scholarship each January.

Athens Area Children’s Choir is directed by Tristen Rowland, TWU graduate, choir teacher at McMinn Central High School, and church organist and accompanied by Savannah Self, TWU student and piano teacher. The choir is under the umbrella of the Athens Area Council for the Arts and will be supported by a steering committee. Parents are invited to serve on this committee.

The ensemble debuted Thursday September 8 2016 when Athens Area Children’s Choir was the featured performer with PBS Sensation Annie Moses Band, which opened AACA’s 2016-2017 Big Time/Small Town Performance Season.
