Theatre Camp is back IRL to help the next generation of theatre artists take the stage…
Students choose one week for a session of classes in acting, improvisation, stage combat, music, movement, and stage craft, directed by Kelly and Bob Borwick and Pam Thigpen. All instructors have years of performing and teaching credits between them. Classes will take place in the Black Box Theater at The Arts Center and at Pocket Park in Downtown Athens, TN. All travel to Pocket Park will happen on foot in a group. Campers will not travel without AACA or camp staff.
The camp ends with a performance of the Arthurian legend inspired original musical, “Wart,” written by Bob and Kelly Borwick, with original music by Pam Thigpen.
While the official registration deadline is June 30, 2021, we anticipate camps will fill up quickly. In the event one or both weeks are full before the deadline, we will begin a waiting list for registrants in the case of “no shows.”
*Financial need should not prevent any student from participating in AACA programs – please contact us if you would like tuition support. Need-based Scholarships are available from the Marian Biddle Trew Scholarship Fund. The deadline for scholarship applications is Friday June 18, 2021. Please call 423 745 8781 to request a scholarship application. Lunch is not included in camp tuition. Students should bring their own lunch to camp each day.
Athens Area Council for the Arts is committed to prioritizing the health and wellness of our community. The following protocols will be in place to keep our campers, staff, attendees, and volunteers safe and reduce the likelihood of COVID-19 spread in our community:
- Masks are required during all indoor classes & events
- Camp staff will keep a daily attendance log which includes screening questions related to possible COVID-19 exposure
- Hand sanitizing products will be made available
- Enrollment is limited to 12 participants to ensure appropriate physical distancing
- Performance will be outside and performers will be at least 12ft from the audience, which should distance appropriately
