Program Description

Enjoy a variety of visual arts, theatre, and music activities each month. Project starts at 5pm with pizza after.

About the Instructors

AACA employs a variety of arts, music, and theatre instructors who have experience in working with children, as well as interns from Tennessee Wesleyan University, who are excited to share their love of the arts with kids.

Workshop Projects

October 1 Inktober with Stefani Burchfield

Join us for a month-long challenge to explore your creativity every day and participate in a world-wide creative community throughout the month of October.

Stefani Burchfield is a professional artist and illustrator with a BFA from Troy University in Troy Alabama, who relocated to beautiful Athens in Fall of 2016. She is passionate about working within her community and is so happy to find such a thriving art scene here at The Art Center and within Athens in general.


November 5 Clay Handbuilding with Andy Phipps

Andy will show us techniques to build a variety of objects with clay.

Andy Phipps received a BFA in Ceramics and Sculpture from Northern Arizona University. He has taught art courses at Bucks County Community College in Pennsylvania. He works as an artist and craftsman creating sculptural and functional pieces from custom woodworking to stained glass, metal working, ceramics, and any combination of these.

January 7 Comic Book/ Manga Drawing with Stefani Burchfield

Stefani will demonstrate and teach techniques for drawing in this style.

February 4 Mixed Media Sculpture with Mandie Watters

Mandie Watters will assist in demonstrating sculpture creation.

Mandie Watters is from Etowah, Tennessee. She is currently a senior fine arts major at Tennessee Wesleyan University. She has an interest in multimedia sculpture. She enjoys sculpture because she believes it embodies multiple elements of art to create a piece. Mandie has been teaching classes at Athens Art Council for over five years and enjoys sharing what she has learned to help others create.

March 4 Self-Portrait in Chuck Close style with Jan Burleson

Jan will facilitate the drawing of self-portraits in this style.

Jan Burleson has a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She is presently creating figurative and abstract bodies of work that reference the passage of time. She has extensive experience in both darkroom and digital photography and has worked with her husband in Burleson-Brown Photography for over a decade.

April 1 Acrylic Painting with Stefani Burchfield

Students will paint using acrylics and canvas to create their own White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. Come enjoy our final Studio of the season with Stefani!
